I purchased this sequin top over a year ago! As soon as I bought it I took it home, washed it, and started making plans for how I was going to style it. Hope you were inspired!! Merry Chrismas and Happy New Year!

Isaiah 9:6-7 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.  Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.

My Favorite Looks from 2013...
Since the year is winding down and New Year's Day is just around the corner, I thought I'd take a trip down my closet memory lane. Here are some of my fav looks from 2013.

I loved this look because it was festive and sleek. The glitz and glam was there
and the all black polished this look up, so it wasn't too "kiddy".

I honestly didn't put too much thought into this look.
Joe told me we were going boating and I was
instantly drawn to these blue & green hues. The heels added nice contrast.

Spring was rearing its head and I decided to rock this
bright coral blazer  one day. I wanted the blazer to speak for
itself, so I kept everything else simple.

I LOVE this look. My 2 fabs: The high bun & The scarf! <3

I like this contrast in textures in this look. The light blouse paired
with these leather leggings is a nice marriage. I added the
brown purse in for an unexpected twist.

I'm actually holding a Zondervan Bible in my hand here. How awesome is that Bible?!
You can totally be stylish and love Jesus.

Monochrome Baby! I was in the mood to experiment with
this trend and I think it worked.

I love this dress! I scored it at H&M at the beginning of the year.
I wore it to the Miami Metropolitan Fashion Week back in April.
I felt really confident in it. :)

This is my "vacay chic" look. While in Miami back in April,
I sported this look to do a bit of shopping.

I wore this look for my hubby. He loves it when I wear pieces
that accentuate my curves. I felt great in this ensemble and
he loved it as well. ;)

One of my fav looks because the animal print & the pop of color
went together better than I expected they would.

I wore this look on the evening we renewed our vows in Puerto Rico.
I wanted to sport this dress especially for my hubby Joe. I added the blazer during
the vow renewal ceremony and removed it later. I love the pop of
turquoise against the animal print.

I rocked this outfit for one of my YouTube videos.
The entire look is thrifted with the exception of my shoes.

Wore my natural hair this day. I am so loving the royal blue
cardigan against the cognac handbag.

This is how I style a men's blazer. I'm wearing a thrifted Lanvin blazer here.
I'm featuring my Zara handbag here.
I've not been able to put it down since it was gifted to me!

I love this look because it's edgy and feminine; sexy and grungy.

Saved the best for last! This look tops the cake because it's as if this
Philip Lim dress was made just for me! The color suits me perfectly and
the cut is a curvy girl's gift from heaven. I love the rucking and the long sleeves.
It's my perfect body con style dress.

One of the things I learned about myself this year is that
"I won't know what I like until I try it".
So I did my best in trying lots of different fashion trends and in doing so, discovered what works for me and what doesn't. I also learned that

"sizing means nothing".
Just because an item is a Small or a 2X doesn't mean I have to rule it out. It all boils down to styling. Lastly,

"the price tag doesn't mean it's going to look amazing on me".

I can't tell you how many people I've watched spend obscene amounts of money on a garment and still look frumpy, bland, or just plain bad. Knowing your body and knowing what works is the key to being  well dressed. Understanding the trends will help you stay fashion forward.

I pray that this post inspires you to love the skin you are in and to find your own lane where fashion is concerned. When you find your lane you will know exactly what works and you'll feel amazing no matter what you wear.

Ker-Leen

Fall Lookbook #3: The Designer's Effect"
I've always been drawn to runway collections because of the cohesiveness of each designer's line of clothing. I've always thought it was so fascinating how each collection had a specific woman in mind. Even further exciting, was the fact that I could see the how intentional the designer was in creating a look for every situation/occasion that woman would be a part of.

I was inspired to create a 'collection', so to speak, with pieces from my own wardrobe. I hope you will be inspired.

A Test of Character
James chapter 1 verses 2-4 says:

Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.
These verses really sustained me this past couple months. At the beginning of the summer Joe and I had an amazing summer vacation in Puerto Rico. We celebrated our 5-year wedding anniversary on a beautiful island with lots of culture and great food. We stayed at an amazing resort, walked the beach, toured the city, and danced every night. It was magical. But shortly after our return home, we faced incident after incident. Nothing life-threatening or anything, but definitely spirit-crushing.

It started out with some major systems in our home breaking down to two of our cars giving out on us. It was like the devil said "I'm going to let them have their fun, but as soon as they get back from vacation, it's on!" Seriously, it was like a domino effect. We had never faced so many issues at once.

All the while, we stayed the course. I was working; Joe was working. We were going to church regularly, serving and recording new videos and music.  In September I was asked to do two major performances. The first performance was at Crossover Church; the other hasn't happened yet but its BIG! (I will give more details sometime this week.) As soon as I found out that I would be featured on  Crossover's new TV show, SOULMag TV I decided,  "I need to build a real show". I had already been thinking about working on my stage presence, so the decision to recruit dancers came naturally.

For weeks we searched for dancers, to no avail. It was like there was no one in the entire city of Tampa who was serious about dancing, or wanted to display their talents beside another artist on-stage. Now, obviously I know that isn't true, but boy, did it feel like that. It was like we kept getting to dead end streets with every prospect. Finally, my husband decided to post an ad on Craigslist, as kind of a last resort. All the while, I stayed positive and I knew that God's will would be done no matter what.

One day, while trying to convince yet another dance crew why a gig at Crossover Church, for a show that would be featured on JCTV would be a good idea, (and I say that very sarcastically), we get a voicemail from a female dancer. She stated that she was interested in an opportunity to dance and had even sent an email with a resume & photos attached. I was blown away by the professionalism she displayed, especially compared to all the lackluster people we had been coming in contact with.

I called her, spoke to her about the vision for the show, the budget, and it was history. She initiated rehearsals, created choreography, and even taught me the steps. The show was coming together. The day before the show, I go to my friend Mike's to record a chorus for one of his songs, and at the end of the session, I stubbed my toe on his ottoman. I prepared myself to be in pain for a few seconds and then be okay, but the pain just got worse. I looked down and discovered I was bleeding. (If you're squeamish don't read the next part) My toe nail had split in half!  Mike ran to get a first aid kit and my hubby Joe quickly attended my foot.

So here I am, less than a day away from taking the stage and dancing with two other beautiful ladies and my toe nail is split in half! I was panicked for a quick second, but then I reflected on the verses I mentioned above (from the book of James) and was comforted. I identified this as an attack from the enemy and decided not to focus on it. With that decision came a miracle! I went home and stayed off of my foot the rest of the day and the skin underneath my nail had healed completely by the next morning;  it was like I was never in pain the day before! Although my actual nail was still split, my toe was free of pain and I was able to perform and dance the next day, in heels!

The dancers came through and even brought a make-up artist with them; who hooked us up on an insane time crunch. God anointed my voice and people were touched during each service. I was blessed beyond measure that day. I could have focused on all the negatives I faced over the past several months leading up to the performance (hurt, rejection, disappointment, fear), but I chose not to. The end result was that God was glorified. I didn't quit because things were hard and I persevered. Through our various trials God was building our character as individuals and as a couple.

God will get the glory for who He is no matter what. The question is, will we let the enemy keep us from being used by God in the attainment of that glory? Life is tough, that's a fact, but it's in those moments when you feel like your back is up against the wall that you have an opportunity to grow character wise. I'm not saying everything is perfect. We still have to a lot to deal with, but in the midst of all that we have decided to let God use us no matter what. I encourage you to do the same. :)
