My Father's House. A Reflection on Father's Day...

The presence of a father is so important in one's life. Is it possible to have a good life without a father? Yes. Is it possible to be successful without a father figure present? Yes. However, a father does make these things more easily attainable. For me, having my father present meant developing a sense of identity and belonging. I also knew a feeling of security and stability. I understood that no matter what happened to me out in the world I could always come back to my father's house.

Thinking about this reminds me of how the same is true with Christ. Understanding who Christ is, and what He did for me on the cross means that I am clear on my identity. I am not confused about who I am or where I belong. I have a father in heaven that loves me so much He sent his own Son to die for me on the cross. Jesus died on the cross, rose from the grave and ascended to heaven to be with the Father. He is preparing a place for me. When all is said and done on this earth I have a place at my Father's house.

This brings me to the present day. Last year we welcomed our son Eilan into this world. He is the answer to many fervent prayers. He is our precious gift and we treasure every day that we get to spend with him.

My relationship with my earthly father has not been perfect by any stretch of the imagination but, this year as I raise my son, I have come to a more clear understanding of the sacrifice it takes to be a parent. I am so flawed, and sometimes I fear that my son will see me for the inadequate creature I really am. But then, I am reminded by the Lord that it's okay for him to see that. What he should also see is a limited mommy clinging to the feet of an unlimited Father. This authenticity is what will bring him into a relationship with Jesus Christ when the time comes.

My father recently accepted Christ as his Lord and personal savior and I was overjoyed to hear that! Since then, our relationship has begun the healing process. We are in two different places right now, but the relationship is the best it has ever been, and I look forward to the promise of growth the future holds. Jesus was the link to restore what was otherwise deficient in his life and in our relationship. Jesus will be the antidote to my shortcomings as a mother. Jesus will be the reason my son will feel loved, affirmed, and a sense of belonging.

As I edited these family photos I thought about how awesome it will be when Eilan is able to look back at them. Our purpose for documenting his life is so that he can gain resolve in his identity. When the storms of life hit him, he will know who he is, to whom he belongs, and that he can always come back home, to his father's house.

Enjoy the pics from our shoot.

Thanks so much for stopping by my site today. I pray that whatever your current situation is with your father (whether he is present or not) that you will be encouraged in the love of our Heavenly Father. My Heavenly Father was always present even in places where my earthly father was not. I took comfort in that, and I pray you do as well.

Fashion Minute: Blushing Nudes

I wore this muted look over the weekend, to my son's first birthday party. I meant to get photos and footage on the day I wore this look, but it's kind of difficult to focus on anything else when you are hosting a party. To top it off, baby boy was fussy, so I didn't have time for much else.

I recreated the look, to include my makeup, for you guys. I did a brown smokey eye, with muted lips. The chandelier earrings were a gift from my mom.

Our Son Turned One!

We feel so blessed to have been given this honor. Being parents to this little champion is a privilege we cherish everyday!!

Eilan: Last year this time we went in to the hospital because I felt some contractions, and found out that you were to be born! It was about a month ahead of schedule and we were nervous, but excited!

We were so anxious on the car ride back home! Every speed bump and traffic stop gave us a mini heart attack. When we got home with you we weren't sure what to do with ourselves and the nurses were no where in sight! Here we are a year later and this is our new normal. Everything about you is perfect. Your larger-than-life smiles, your knowing glances, your penchant for balloons, your toy examinations, your love for crawling under chairs and tables, and the list goes on.

You added more purpose to our lives and it is our joy to be raising royalty. We will prayerfully continue to teach you in the ways of Christ. We love you!

Big thanks to Jamara Forbes Media for the FANTASTIC event photos! You are such an awesome friend!

HOW TO: STYLING A TULIP SKIRT (feat. Rita and Phill)

In today's post I show you how I style a tulip skirt. This lovely skirt was custom-made to fit my body and gifted to me by the company Rita and Phill for my honest review. This company specializes in custom tailored skirts for women of all sizes.

When I sent in my measurements I was unsure of how exact the skirt would be, since this exchange was happening online. However, after receiving my skirt, any skepticism I held about online custom clothing was dispelled. The ordering process was simple. You select the skirt you want, take your measurements (per the requirements on the website), and send off your measurements with payment.

You will see, in the photos that follow, that my skirt fit me perfectly. The quality of the material is superior to anything I've ever purchased retail. The material is durable with stretch for comfort. The lining is a luxurious satin (mine was a pop of red). Lastly, the seams were so impressive; solid and neat! I will have the skirt for quite some time. It's going to be my go-to when I need a black skirt for a special occasion. I am so glad I found  this company!

Daytime Dressy

A surplice blouse is sophisticated and feminine without laborious effort. The soft taupe with the pop of black makes a subtle statement.

Top: (Forever21) Choker: (Forever21) Shoes: (Old Purchase)

Daytime Casual

Denim over a white tank sends the message "casual". Paired with these chunky heels this look is everything bold and comfortable.

Denim Top: (Old Purchase)  Platform Sandals: (Forever21)

Nighttime Glam

Nothing says "date night" or "hot date" like the color red. I've never been a big fan of the color, and I think it has something to do with the fact that I am an introvert at heart, and red screams "look at me!" However, I've been stepping out of my comfort zone lately and taking fashion risks. Dare I say that this one paid off? I finished the look off with a pair of rose gold minimalist heels.

Top: (Forever21)  Rose Gold Sandals: (Forever21)

I am absolutely in love with my custom made skirt! The representative from Rita and Phill was gracious enough to provide my readers/viewers a 35% discount on your very own custom made skirt. Go to their website by clicking HERE and enter: KERLEEN06 to get your discount!  The code is active until July 31, 2016.

If you have traditionally had a hard time finding skirts that complement  your body, I would definitely recommend checking this company out! Leave me your questions/comments!

I hope you were inspired!

Fashion Minute: Styling Vintage Jeans

Hey Everyone!!

The look I wore this weekend was styled around a pair of vintage jeans I thrifted over a year ago. I've only worn this pair of jeans a couple of times, due to the fact that they are statement jeans. I love the almost white-wash effect and I absolutely ADORE the high waist on the pair. They make me feel so long and slender. Despite the lack of stretch in this pair they are rather comfortable and easy to wear. Here is the low down on the rest of the look...

These pictures are stills from my motion blog post. To watch click HERE.

This blouse is from online retailer 599Fashion. Click HERE to find a similar blouse.

Bangles & Statement Chandelier earrings are my go-to accessories. The effect is effortless femininity.

You've seen this pair of shoes before, but you can find them HERE.

Fashion Minute: Loungewear Trend

Hi Everyone,

In today's post I am styling this lovely, sheer, Oscar de la Renta robe. When I purchased this robe I had higher hopes for it than just to wear it around the house. I envisioned it as a bathing suit cover-up. Since the loungewear trend has become a 'thing', I decided to experiment with it as streetwear. Here is my take on the latest trend.

I paired this sheer Oscar de la Renta robe (similar) with a bralette and a pair of thrifted white denim shorts. These edgy platforms give this look a 'kick' and I'm sporting my new 'diaper bag' for utility.

What I love is that I could have worn this robe open for another option. It would wear like a kimono and no one would be the wiser.

This statement necklace adds a touch of glamour to this otherwise casual ensemble. Purchase one like it here.

I think the key to pulling off loungewear in public is to have balance and understand your body. A full pajama set would be unrealistic for me. I also think that you have to practice moderation with such a tricky trend. One false move and you've committed a grave fashion faux-pas. Something as simple as tying the sash to the side and not the front helped me stay atop the tight rope. You get what I mean? In any case, it's nice to be able to use things that are already in our wardrobe and be on trend. I'm all about finding multiple uses for an article of clothing!

Fulfilled.

I'll try not to make this post overly sappy, but I have really been loving every minute of motherhood. I am in the early stages of being a mom, and, although some days are challenging I can't help but to be grateful to experience this. Every time I look at my son I think of how honored I am that God would let me witness the miracle that is his life. He is growing and changing every day, and I remember when he was just a tiny fetus in my womb. God is so amazing. It's hard to describe what I feel. In short, the operative word is... Fulfilled.

Here are some family outtake photos from this weekend's style shoot.

Fashion Minute: One Skirt, 2 Ways

Hi Again Friend,

Over the weekend I styled this beautiful rust skirt, purchased from Forever21. I scored this skirt on clearance for only $6!

You can find a similar one here

In the first look I paired this skirt with a chambray blouse and chandelier earrings. I also wore a pair of ankle strap pumps (also purchased from Forever21), and my new "diaper bag" (more details on that in an upcoming post).

In the second look, I wore the same skirt with an off the shoulder 'peasant-style' blouse for a 70's/bohemian feel. I knotted the blouse, as I did in the first look, to keep the proportions of the outfit balanced.

I could have easily changed the bag and shoes to put an altogether different spin on the second look, but I decided to keep it simple.

I am looking to minimize my wardrobe and start afresh, lately. As a result, I have been challenging myself to create new outfit combos with pieces that I love. I hope this post inspired you to do the same!

Our Mini Family Getaway

Last weekend the family and I went on a small excursion to South Florida. We planned the trip around an event my hubby's family was having and decided to play tourists. We visited parts of Miami that we've never been to. We stayed at the Westin Colonnade in Coral Gables and went sightseeing in Coconut Grove. Those cities are so beautiful! While there I got to see my side of the family as well, and they baby sat Eilan so hubby and I could have a date night!

Here are a few family pictures.

The following pictures were taken as we toured Coconut Grove. :)

Thanks for stopping by my blog, again!! See you in the next post...coming very soon!!
